PAULA Wood won two stableford competitions in the ladies section at Wyre Forest GC, finishing with 34 points ahead of Jane Palmer (34), Sue Gibbard (33) and Mary Finn (32) in one event and with 35 points to see off Gibbard (34), Caz Bolt (32) and Margaret Ellor (31) in a second.

Finn won the April medal with nett 74 ahead of Ellor (75), Gibbard (80) and Sue Giblin (80). Ellor won the April stableford with 37 points ahead of Doreen Bailey (35), Giblin (33) and Bolt (32).

THE Bewdley Pines GC ladies Tuesday April stableford was won by Shirley Birch on countback with 38 points ahead of Jo Crow (38) and Barbara Weston (37).

The Saturday April stableford was won by Jeannie Jackson on countback with 37 ahead of Chris Martin (37) and Holli Ward (36).

COUSINS and Little Lakes GC members Sean Williams and Melvyn Davies progressed into the next round of the Daily Mail foursomes beating brothers Phil and Steve Lau, from Cleobury, 4 and 3 having been given a tough draw at Cleobury. Sean and Melvyn await the third round draw. In the Worcestershire Handicap League Little Lakes had a resounding 4.5 to 1.5 win at home to Cleobury. J Roberts and A Green won 2 and1; I Sorrell and J Bunce won 6 and 5; L Hawkeswood and R Sidaway won 3 and 2; S Flavel and A Heaton won 4 and 3; J Morley and F Holder a/s; C Dorrel and P Jones lost 6 and 5. The next match is on the May 14 at Bransford.

THE men's bogey turned out to be one of the toughest competitions of the year at Cleobury Mortimer GC with only three players shooting under their handicaps.

George Gifford shot three under to reach his goal and become a single figure golfer and senior members Gary Hawes and Alan Hall proved age is no barrier by stealing the show. They both shot four under to win their respective divisions and Hawes and Hall agreed putting was the secret to their success.

"The greens were just so quick today keeping three putts off my card was a massive bonus," said Hall. Cleobury contest the Droitwich Shield final on Sunday.

Cleobury founder member Bob Lucas found the form of his life to shoot four over gross and a nett 68, to give him the win over John Brazier in the Men's Medal.

Elsewhere in Division Two Keith Gardner and Rick Clayton were first and second respectively. Victory was sweet for Lucas who has found himself picking up team prizes rather than individual honours over the last twelve months. "it has been a long time coming," said the victor, "I knew I had a good score in me it was just getting it all to gel at once, fingers crossed this form will continue on my tour of Spain next week." Cleobury secured two victories in three days in the alliances. Using home advantage, Sam Pain and his team of amateurs shot 15 under in the Worcestershire Alliance to win on count back. Pain along with Gary Mann, Spike Broad and star of the show George Gifford (who shot 44 points) secured two birdies on the last hole to hand themselves victory. On Thursday it was time for the Shropshire and Herefordshire pros to visit for a landslide victory for resident PGA professional Tim Hall and his team of Andy Chantler, Broad and Tom Wright who shot a massive 22 under, 7 clear of their nearest rivals.

Kidderminster GC B team started the season in style, winning three and halving one of their opening four matches. Kidderminster won 6 and 2 at home to Stourbridge and halved it 3 and 3 at Kings Norton, Churchill and Blakedown at home were won 5 and 2 Droitwich at home was won 61/2 to a 1/2. SAM Johnson was overall winner of a junior medal event at Wharton Park GC ahead of Liam Baynham and Harry Lane. Joseph Wier was fourth and Luke Lane fifth with no return from Tom Johnson and Samuel Ozwell. Baynham and Lane's handicaps were reduced by one with Johnson's reduced by two.

David Jukes won a midweek stableford with 41 points, ahead of Karl Bowyer and Ben Yeomans.

Wharton Park held its third fun Easter event for juniors on Easter Monday.

The theme for the day was 'celebration and the young designers tipped their hats to the Royal couple in magnificent style. Winners were Ellie Balmer, Emma Voysey and Daniel Voysey.

Novice (6 holes) and handicap (9 holes) competitions followed with close scoring in both events and 3 birdies on holes 4, 5, and 6 by our handicap players Charlotte Metcalfe, Charlotte Voysey and Daniel Voysey.
