As part of Kidderminster Soroptimists' continuing link with Birchen Coppice Primary School, President Denise Carson welcomed the Head Teacher, Mrs Liane Billingsley to their recent Supper Meeting to talk to the Club on a subject obviously very close to her heart - her school.

Club members support the school at the weekly coffee mornings held for parents after pupil assemblies, as well as at special events such as the Summer Fayre in July.

Whilst showing images of the new school, Mrs Billingsley began by speaking about the background to her career which began with an ambition to become a class teacher when she was very young. After having trained at Dudley College of Education, she began teaching in Redditch. She also looked after the dyslexic unit at Wribbenhall Primary (now Bewdley Primary) and was also the Head of Tan Lane Primary School in Stourport-on-Severn.

It was while she was teaching at Droitwich, that the headship of Brichen Coppice was offered. Despite many initial challenges with all aspects of the school, Mrs Billingsley has gradually created the foundations of a potentially very successful environment for pupils to learn and develop both academically and socially.

Sarah Tuner, the School's Community Activities Co-ordinator and Sue Green from the Nursery Unit were also guests of the Club.

Our Supper and Speaker meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month (except August) and visitors and guests are always welcome.
