A DISPLAY celebrating legendary Stourport singer/ songwriter Clifford T Ward will return to the town due to popular demand.
The display centres around Clifford’s days in and around the town in the 1960s when Cliff Ward and the Cruisers were at the forefront of the local music scene.
It will be staged on Saturday from 11am until 3pm at the Discover Stourport Heritage Room and Information Point in Bridge Street.
Photographs and other memorabilia from Ward’s personal collection have been supplied by original member of the Cruisers Trevor Jones and Stourport Forward volunteers Rita Phillips and Alan Millward have researched and created the display.
Between 1972 and 1977 Ward released seven albums as a solo artist.
The pinnacle of his success came in July 1973 when his song “Gaye” reached number eight in the UK singles chart and Ward appeared on Top of the Pops.
Ward died in December 2001 after battling with Multiple Sclerosis for nearly two decades.
However, his songs live on. In the past year, BBC Radio 2’s “Sounds of the Sixties” and BBC Four’s “Singer, Songwriters at the BBC” have featured Ward’s recordings and both mentioned that he was born in Stourport.
The event is back after a succesfull staging took place early in November.
