THE third Cleobury Mortimer beer festival will be the “biggest and best yet” according to organisers.

It takes place at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21.

Last year’s event was attended by more than 500 beer and music enthusiasts and the golf club says the event has become an essential fixture in the local calendar.

“It has been a phenomenal success during the past two years and that has spurred us on to make 2012 even better,” said project manager Dave Pain. “It has gathered a lot of interest from the local community and breweries.”

More than 30 ales and ciders from local breweries, including Hobson’s, Ludlow, Woods, Bathams, Enville and Bewdley will feature and the festival will also celebrate produce from Shropshire and Worcestershire with a barbecue and other food available.

Entertainment will be provided with an acoustic open mic session organised by musician Aaron Booton. Sets from groups in Manchester, London, Liverpool and Birmingham have been confirmed as well as music from Kidderminster College.

The beer festival was started by Mr Pain and his brother Graham who were looking for a way to celebrate St George’s Day.

“What is more English than a beer festival,” he added.
