A NEW all-weather hockey pitch in Stourport will "ensure the continued development" of the sport in Wyre Forest after being given the green light by planners.

It will be built at Stourport Sports Club, Kingsway, subject to “no objections” from the Countryside Conservation Officer.

Proposals were given delegated approval by bosses at a meeting of Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, April 18.

Case planning officer Paul Round said there was a need for the pitch because Kidderminster Hockey Club will be displaced later this year their current pitch at King Charles I School is replaced with a football pitch later this year.

“The high level surface is essential to ensure the continued development of hockey in the area, help the growth of Stourport Hockey Club, sustain elite level hockey and players in the area and help create a ‘hockey super hub’ centre of excellence,” he added.

The all-weather surface synthetic hockey pitch will include fencing and eight 15-metre high floodlights.
