HOLY Trinity International School (HTIS) in Kidderminster is moving closer to becoming a free school.

Teachers discussed the plans with representatives from the Department for Education in London on Tuesday, May 15.

An independent day school since 1903 and run by a charitable trust, HTIS is used by local families for dance festivals, weekly ballet classes, swimming clubs, as well as holiday clubs.

Headteacher Pamela Leek-Wright, said: “I would like to thank everyone from the school and local community for their huge vote of confidence and support for our free school application.

“We have been literally overwhelmed by the positive response, which is testament to the school’s excellent reputation locally. If we have been successful and granted free school status, we should know by the beginning of July.”

A co-educational school, HTIS is known for having a personalised approach to learning, and is currently working towards the introduction of the Primary Years Programme, skills based learning, in to its prep school. As of September 2014, the school also intends to implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme in its refurbished Sixth Form Centre.
