A SURVEY from Swinton has found that more homeowners are purchasing second-hand furnishings to redecorate their home this summer.

The home insurance retailersurveyed homeowners across the UK and found that 60 per cent could not afford to improve their home with new furnishings, even on a low budget.

Over three-quarters of homeowners (76%) said they would consider purchasing second-hand furniture for their homes and 60% said that they would swap furniture with others using exchange websites, such as FreeCycle.

Furthermore, 73% of respondents claimed they would rearrange furniture to give their home a “fresh look”.

Steve Chelton, Swinton Insurance, said: “Homeowners are embracing the challenge during this current tough economic climate and are looking at alternative ways to spruce up their properties.

“With a variety of charity shops located on most high streets alongside multiple online auctions and swapping services, getting a bargain to revamp the home has never been more convenient.”
