ONE Stop Stores, which has almost 650 stores throughout England and Wales, has donated £40,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The store group donated the money to Macmillan to help fund its work supporting people with cancer and their families in local communities.
One Stop Stores took on the challenge of “wearing It green” for Macmillan Cancer Support in May and collectively raised £40,000 in just one day from green fund-raising activities.
The Wear It Green days were kicked off at the chain’s head office, as well as encouraging as many of the 645 local stores to take part as possible. There were cake sales, tombolas, raffles, quizzes and fancy dress competitions.
Tim Josephs, head of store support for One Stop, said: “The One Stop team are delighted to have supported Macmillan on their Green Day and raised so much for this really important cause that is close to everyone’s hearts.”
The money will be used to help fund Macmillan’s cancer services, including specialist nurses working throughout the NHS, a nurse-run support line and grants for cancer patients with money problems.
Macmillan’s area fund-raising manager Nic Skipwith said: “We were bowled over by the level of engagement from One Stop .
“To raise £40,000 in one day is absolutely phenomenal and will go such a long way to helping support people affected by cancer and ensuring that no-one has to face cancer alone. We are extremely proud of One Stop.”
