MANUFACTURER and retailer, Hereford Furniture will make its TV debut tomorrow on BBC2 in a one-hour dedicated documentary-style programme.

The family-owned furniture company, which has stores in Kidderminster, Hereford and Sutton Coldfield and employs more than 40 people, is the focus of the first episode of a new BBC2 series Digby Jones: The New Troubleshooter.

Focused on helping secure the future of medium-sized businesses, the programme is fronted by Birmingham-born Lord Digby Jones, whose working class rise through the ranks to the House of Lords has secured his status as a passionate champion for British manufacturing.

Hereford Furniture has been working with the BBC since last autumn, granting Lord Digby Jones and the crew access to all areas. Filming focused on the company’s manufacturing processes, with manufacturing experts brought in to help. The team also visited Emma Bridgewater’s Stoke on Trent factory for design and marketing inspiration, which has led the company in a new direction.

Lord Digby Jones said: "It is so exciting that the first ever New Troubleshooter is Hereford Furniture. They are a first-class business with the honesty to accept the need for change and the courage to implement it. I enjoyed working with them all - I learnt a lot and I wish them all the luck in the world as they all work through their change programme."

Mike Muxworthy, managing director of Hereford Furniture, said: “Hereford Furniture is a medium-sized furniture business, which designs and manufactures in Britain and employs locally.

"We have relished the opportunity to work with and learn from Digby, who is a passionate advocate of British manufacturing. Off the back of making the programme we have made some important changes to our business and have embraced some exciting new opportunities. Expect to see bigger and better things from us in the future...”

Digby Jones: The New Troubleshooter airs at 8pm.
