I AM most concerned at the way Wyre Forest District Council is riding roughshod over local opinion on matters of financial prudence and lack of accountability.
I read in last week’s Shuttle that £111,000 has to be saved and the ways they are proposing to save this through council tax alterations.
On the same day I receive a newsletter from my own district councillor notifying me that each local councillor has been allocated £10,000 to spend on projects of their choice.
I can see from the list of choices he has made that some of the so-called projects are on areas of his own involvement.
I did not think this is the way that democracies worked. This £10,000 multiplied by the number of councillors equates to £420,000 and I find it difficult to believe that the electorate would agree with this ‘allowance.’ I am also aware that we are collectively involved in the cost of some £10.5 million for the council’s new Fine Point HQ.
The business case for the construction of this was, I believe, the work of David Buckland who has since left the council. Much of the proposed finance was a set of many assumptions that have clearly not come to pass .
Properties that were to be sold are still unsold and many assumptions of his paper of last November should be compared with the realities that can now be seen.
I believe that an independent audit of all the costs should now be taken so that the whole district’s electorate are aware of the real costs to us all.
I am surprised not to see opposition parties are not asking more questions.
