HAVING voted at every opportunity since the 1960s, I decided to spoil my paper in last week’s Police and Crime Commissioner election.

The whole enterprise was a farce and the job was impossible in the face of cuts in the council tax for local authorities.

Despite the lack of support for independent candidates, 12 have been elected and I admire their tenacity.

If the ballot paper had not specified party allegience I would have voted, as would many more people in the country.

Good luck to the independents. Let’s hope they are not blamed when the police numbers are cut and more police stations are closed to save money.
