I AM a parent of a child at Lickhill Primary School and agree that the county council were very slow in issuing any help and support to Lickhill when it was put into special measures and before that when they were threatening to close the school.

As parents our first priority is obviously to ensure that children receive a good education and considering that a new governing body and new acting headteacher were only appointed very recently, I feel it was inappropriate and very premature for parent, Lisa Fisher, to say that ‘most’ parents are absolutely delighted. (Council blasted for lack of help, Shuttle, June 25) How can she come to the conclusion that ‘most’ parents are?

The impression that I get is that parents are at last seeing some input by the council but until I see what improvements and changes are to be made, I am both apprehensive and still concerned.

This comment made by Ms Fisher therefore makes me feel that I have been represented to have said something I did not!

All I can say is that I hope that ‘most’ parents support and respect the work of the new acting headteacher and governing body in good and bad times as clearly was not the case with the previous head and governors.

This was clearly demonstrated at a recent governors meeting held with parents to discuss special measures and the way forward. There was total disrespect and disgraceful behaviour shown by some parents and the way forward was not even on their agenda.

What some parents fail to recognise is that without the huge commitment of the previous head and governors and the tireless work they did to fight the closure of Lickhill, the county council would have won their bid to close it and this we must not forget.

If only some parents had shown the energy and enthusiasm in these bad times to support the school fully. JEN ELLIOTT Stourport Parent of Year 2 pupil
