RECENTLY I attended our local parish council meeting on an unrelated subject and a discussion followed concerning the speeding of motor vehicles in Belbroughton Road, Blakedown.

Two police officers attended and spelt out in detail what is being done to prevent this.

For several years I have been campaigning alone for action on Stakenbridge Lane. I have tried to obtain help from the parish council, highways, police, and finally Dr Richard Taylor who has been told by top-level police that they have finite resources and have trotted out all the usual negatives including ‘only a fatality will prompt activity’.

When a local authority installs a speed restriction on a stretch of road in the interests of public safety the police are obliged to ensure it is observed; anything less is a dereliction of their duty and if they do not have resources to do this they should get them.

The frustration for me is that it appears that police activity is being applied to Belbroughton Road, a very much safer road with adequate pavements both sides, much wider and far less dangerous than Stakenbridge Lane.

A copy of the police letter sent to Dr Taylor was sent to me by his secretary and is a disgrace.

During the last five years vehicles have crashed through my hedge on no less than three occasions and have crossed a pavement to do so.

Only the grace of God has prevented loss of life.

I shall be watching closely further activities on this and will again raise the question as to why my suggestions have been ignored.
