I AM glad that David Little's concerns were highlighted in the Shuttle over whether businesses already in the town of Stourport would suffer if yet another huge supermarket came to town on the site of Carpets of Worth.

Small town and village shops are closing down all over Britain due to too many huge supermarkets being allowed to be built and now towns give little choice.

It's a tragedy that we see boarded up shop fronts and shops change hands too frequently.

The small business man or woman must be heard and be given a fair chance of survival by both councils and the community.

There are too many large supermarkets in Wyre Forest already without allowing more.

Concerning Mr Danks's letter to the paper not wanting more housing development on this site we would agree with him also.

If housing is allowed to go on as it has done in the last few years there will be no countryside left and nowhere to build for industry.

The problem is our population has doubled since the Second World War.

We are annoyed that our Governments have allowed the nails to be driven into our long-standing industries that helped to build up our country's wealth.

We are now having to depend upon cheap imports and having jobs in services with fewer industries trying to compete.

We have lost a wealth of industries in Wyre Forest including carpets, tannery, enamel, rope, horn, pewter, chain, steel, vinegar works and sugar beet to name but a few.

However, if we are going to tax people to the limit then nothing will survive. If anything should be built on this site then let's have some industry with a rise in productivity. Our goods used to be some of the best.
