THREE generations of a Kidderminster family have made a splash, raising £700 and counting for Kemp Hospice in a charity swim.

Heather Rutter, 57, daughter Kate Hudson and grandson Alex Hudson 9, together with Mrs Rutter’s sister-in-law Mal Garbett, 61 and family friends Andrea Toman and Shirly Curtiss swam three miles in total in a continuous relay.

The event took place at the Mercure Kidderminster Hotel’s health club swimming pool, Habberley Road, Bewdley, on Sunday and the group completed the 192 lengths in two hours, 19 minutes and 18 seconds.

Mrs Rutter said: “The time was a lot faster that what we thought it would be, it went really well.

“So far we have raised £700 and I hope it will be about £800 when all the money is in. We are really, really pleased because the work Kemp do is just so deserving.”

Mrs Rutter, who works at Kidderminster’s Tesco store, swam alone in a similar event last year raising nearly £300, bringing her fundraising total for the Kidderminster-based charity to £1,000.

Kemp community fundraiser, Ele Millward, said: “We would like to thank Heather and her team. We are really grateful for their support and it is only because of fundraising like this that we can continue to care for local people.”

The group was cheered on by Alex’s friend Tom Mardell, who swam alongside the nine-year-old to add extra support.
