Beavers awarded Highest Award ‘The Chief Scout Bronze award’.

Twelve Beaver Scouts from KD15 (Habberley) Scout Group have been awarded the chief Scout Bronze award.

This is the first time a Beaver Scout from the group has been award the highest award you can gain as a Beaver Group To obtain the award these Beavers have to complete 6 Challenge badge awards in the following.

Fitness challenge they took part in a fitness class, learnt about healthy food and had team games like balancing a bean bag on their head, an obstacle course, egg and spoon and took part in the mini Olympics at Rhydd Covert Global challenge they learnt about international beliefs and we also had an evening when they dressed up in different costume from around the world and learnt different sayings in French German and Spanish. We also learnt a promise from another country.

Creative challenge we had a day at Rhydd Covert making wind chimes from junk, Lego models, learnt how to pitch a tent, and made bird feeders from pasta.

Outdoor challenge the Beavers had to learn how to pack a rucksack for a day, we went to a campsite, which was up at Rhydd Covert and pitched a tent and we learnt how to pack a healthy picnic.

Friendship challenge To gain this badge we had to raise funds for a good cause so the Beavers were sponsored to plant daffodils for Marie Claire.

We also got to learn about different aspects of life in Italy with regards to food and the currency. We were very lucky to be able to go and visit the Mayor and the Beavers were taken on a tour of the Mayor’s parlour.

Their last challenge badge was the Promise Challenge. All the beaver had to take part in an investiture ceremony. They were lucky to be invited to the local church and were shown around the church and learnt all about the duties of the Vicar and also listened to the choir singing. They listened to a story from a faith tradition, which gave examples of good and bad, and we chatted about it after. We ended our evening with a prayer, which one of the Beavers gets to read.

The whole process has taken 6 months to complete and we are very proud of them said Beaver Scout Leader Sharon Warren. They have all gain some very valuable things that they will carry with them in Scouting and for the rest of their life.

We held a special presentation evening for them and invited parents and family to see them receive the award from the Mayor Marcus Hart before he stepped down from office later this week.
