For the first time in many years Kidderminster District Scout groups have held an overseas camp. From 15th to 22nd of August a party of 162 adult leaders, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts enjoyed a camp at the scouting campsite at De Kluis, Sint-Joris-Weert in the Flemish part of Belgium.

There was a full programme of activities organised for those attending. These included several choices of cycle route, rafting, a high wires course, and visits to theme parks and local sights including the City of Leuven. Kelvin Morris, Camp Leader stated that the quality of these activities received lots of praise from the scouts. There have been many youngsters who have overcome personal challenges during the activities this week – not the least being cooking meals for about 40 people on their sub-camps. Much of the movement of groups around the local area was by public transport, another experience for the scouts. Campfires and a “wacky Olympics” event were some of the evening entertainment enjoyed by all.

Planning for the camp started eighteen months before departure, with a small organising committee which expanded as further tasks were identified.
