Historians Stephen Price and Stuart Davies will be uncovering new stories about Bewdley’s early days in a lecture on Thursday, November 29.
The duo been investigating what went on in Bewdley before the town got its Borough Charter in 1472. They have been doing so with the help of a number of local householders who have allowed the timbers in their houses to be dated.
Dendrochronologist, Ian Tyers, from Sheffield, drilled very small samples of the oak timbers still surviving in these houses and using the science of tree ring dating has been able to determine very accurately when the trees used to build the houses were cut down.
A dozen houses were sampled in this way during the summer and Price and Davies will present the results next Thursday, November 29 at the Baptist Church in High Street, Bewdley.
Doors open for refreshments at 7pm and the talk will begin at 7.30pm.
There will be a small admission charge (£2 for adults; children free) on the door to help cover the evening’s costs. The cost includes free coffee/tea before the talk starts.
