August is all about relaxing and enjoying the summer. Schools have broken up, the holidays are here and there’s no better time to have a barbecue, play garden games and splash about in the paddling pool. Our gardens are looking great with late summer perennials putting on a show-stopping display and the veg patches are sending produce in abundance.

Relax and soak up the magic of summer.

If you’re going away make sure that the garden can cope with the summer heat. If you can, ask a neighbour or friend to call in to water the plants outdoors, not forgetting the indoor plants too.

At the June meeting, Paul Underhill, gave an interesting talk on the subject ‘Trees and things’. Paul, owns and runs a local family business, Landscape Plants (Cleobury) Ltd, Six Ashes Nursery, Bridgnorth Road, Cleobury Mortimer, DY14 8JF. The nursery specialises in growing trees in containers for large commercial projects which are send all over England &Wales.

Many of the trees seen in super market or hospital car parks probably came from here. They also can supple cottage perennials, Italian Topiary, Bamboo and a wide range of shrubs.

It was also the clubs Rose & Sweet Pea Show. Some good specimens were entered, many thanks to Anne for judging the show.

The results were Joint first Bob Marriott & Chris Cowdell and third Austin Fletcher.

Best Exhibit Bob Marriott.
