CLOWS TOP & DISTRICT GARDENING CLUB: The garden should now be looking its best. The borders are full of colour and scent such as roses and sweet peas fill the air and the vegetable garden producing fine crops. Long summer evenings can be enjoyed to the full, relaxing and entertaining friends.

However, there’s always something to be done. Make sure you keep feeding hanging baskets. Dead head roses, sweet peas, bedding plants and perennials to keep them blooming.

Take cuttings from your favourite tender plants for over wintering indoors. Cuttings can also still be taken from shrubs and herbaceous perennials.

At the May meeting Bill White, from Bill White Nursery, Far Forest, gave an interesting demonstration and informative talk on propagation. This is a huge subject, however, seeds and cuttings were covered in this hour. Lots of hints and tips, the evening was a great success with everyone enjoying the talk.

If you’re not a member then come along and join us at one of the monthly meetings. It’s a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts, ideas and advice with other members. We have a great programme of speakers as well as Evening visits to local gardens. Our Garden Club has a very friendly atmosphere, everyone is welcome. Don’t be afraid to come along, we are a garden club not a horticulture society, the membership is only £10 pa. However, Non-members are welcome to any monthly meeting.
