ACTORS from the Chaddesley Amateur Theatrical Society (CATS) are celebrating after winning the best drama category at a regional awards ceremony for their Spring production.

The production of Tom, Dick and Harry, a farce by Ray and Michael Cooney, scooped the prize at the West Midlands ceremony held by the National Operatic and Dramatic Association.

CATS produces two shows a year, usually a play in the Spring and a musical or pantomime in the late Autumn.

The company had previously won the prize with Caught in the Net, another Ray and Michael Cooney farce and A Bad Dream by Simon Brett.

Members of the cast were unable to attend the awards ceremony as they are busy with rehearsals for their latest production, One o’Clock from the House, a comedy by Frank Vickery.

The play, which will take place at Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall from Wednesday, April 30 to Saturday, May 3, has a cast of seven women and five men.

The action revolves around the funeral of an elderly father, where family members include a wellington-clad cook that bakes almond-less almond cakes, another who is convinced his shopping trolley is a clever dog called Rover and a sister who is a happy inmate of a psychiatric home.

Add to this a posthumous joke played by the father on three of his daughters and the fact that they are not exactly what might be termed a close-knit family and the scene is set for a scorching comedy of personalities and situations.
