VETS in Hagley raised more than £2,000 for an animal charity with their all-staff pantomime of The Wizard of Oz.

Nurses, vets and customer care advisors from the three Clent Hills Vet practices in Hagley, Bromsgrove and Rubery performed the show to 200 people at Fairfield Village Hall in Bromsgrove on Saturday (December 2).

The Christmas show was a fundraising initiative for the vets' nominated charity for 2017 The Cinnamon Trust, which supports elderly and terminally ill people and their pets.

Vet Hayley McKenzie, who organised and directed the show since rehearsals started in March, said: "What better way to end our fundraising year for The Cinnamon Trust than with a magical day and night filled with fun and laughter, raising money for this fantastic cause?”

Among the all-staff cast was head vet Alun Edwards, who starred as Aunt Em, nurse Sophie Hilton as Dorothy, and Joao Teotonio as a a punk rock-style Tinman.

A total of £2,055 was raised through ticket sales and a charity raffle.

Cinnamon Trust volunteer Janet Morgan, who attended the panto, said: "It was a tremendous show and you could see that a lot of hard work had taken place to stage such an ambitious production.

"We are extremely grateful for the support shown to the Trust by Clent Hills Vets.

"We depend entirely on voluntary contributions and fundraising projects like this help make a big difference to the people and pets who use our services.”
