SOMERLEYTON WI: At the recent May meeting President Linda Sprosen welcomed new member Pam Plant. Pat Topham was presented with flowers for a special birthday. She also welcomed back several members after illness and wished others, who were absent, a speedy recovery. Secretary Sandra Charlton listed many activities for members’ participation and Angie McCarthy reported on the very interesting Council Meeting she and Pat Mullard had attended in Bromsgrove, learning all about life in Antarctica. Linda reported on the Group Meeting held at Hartlebury where volunteers from the Kemp shops created a fashion show. Heidi Hawkins gave a very informative talk on the work of Kemp. More volunteers are always welcomed. Members won several raffle prizes as usual! The two Resolutions were put forward well by Pam Upsall about loneliness and Diane Ferris about micro plastics in the oceans and sea life. Discussions took place and the subjects were duly voted on for our delegate, Diane Ferris, to take the results to the AGM in Liverpool. Social time was spent with refreshments, provided by the committee, and purchasing from the book and bring and buy stalls. The June meeting will celebrate the Group’s 50th birthday with a meal at Bewdley Pines Golf Club. Those who have signed up to attend should meet at the club at 6.30pm for 7pm hopefully wearing something yellow. Monthly meetings are held in St Cecilia’s Church, Hoo Road, at 7.30pm on the second Tuesday. Visitors are very welcome to attend. The July 11 meeting will have Anthony Collis will talk about ‘Swinging Ladies’ (pub signs!). For the competition members are asked to design their own signs incorporating their name!
