Peter Collins gave an interesting account of the history and work of the National Trust. Noted mainly for its Stately Houses it also cares for 600,000 acres of countryside, 775 miles of coastline, working farms, pubs, villages as well as one theatre in Bury St. Edmonds. Many properties have been donated to the Trust including Scafell Pike, in the Lake District, given by the people of Cumbria as a memorial to the fallen of WW1. He also showed slides of the many National Trust properties in the local area.
At next months meeting on September 15, Rosemary Prosser will give a talk with the intriguing title of "From tights to trousers".
