A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs by police investigating the death of a 13-year-old boy found unconscious in a park.

Carson Price was found on Friday evening in a park in Ystrad Mynach, near Caerphilly, South Wales, around a mile from his home in Hengoed, and police believe “illegal substances” contributed to his death.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Thursday morning when officers raided an address in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood, Gwent Police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Alun Davies, the senior investigating officer, said: “A 14-year-old boy from the area has now been arrested on suspicion of supplying class A controlled drugs.

“He currently remains in police custody at Newport Central Police Station and will be interviewed with an appropriate adult as part of our investigation.

“I would encourage anyone with any further information that may assist with our inquiries to make contact with Gwent Police.”

Superintendent Nick McLain said: “I’d like to thank all members of the community for their continued support during this tragic time.

“The information received from the public has been a vital part of the investigation. I would like to emphasise no one has been charged with any offences and the investigation is still continuing.”

A vigil was held in Carson’s honour at Ystrad Mynach Park, which had been organised by his friends and attended by his parents and brother.

They said in a statement: “On Friday 12th April, our lives changed forever when our little boy was taken away from us.

“Carson was bright and caring, kind and loving. He was a cheeky little boy. He was the best big brother to Coby and was loved by so many.

“From the bottom of our hearts, we’d like to thank all those that have taken the time to leave messages of condolences.

“Hearing your fond memories of Carson has brought us comfort during this terrible time.

“We have been truly overwhelmed by the support we have received locally, nationally and from around the world.

“Today, we as a family, along with Carson’s friends and the Ystrad Mynach community, have been able to celebrate the short life of our beautiful boy who we will all miss so much and it has given us great comfort to see all those who knew and cared about Carson come together this afternoon.

“We’d like to thank Carson’s friends for organising such a thoughtful tribute, I know they all meant so much to him.

“Thinking of another family going through what we have is unbearable. We urge people to talk about the devastating consequences that drugs can have and how they destroy lives.

“Parents, please speak to your children, or if you are young and need help, there are people that can give you advice.

“If anyone can help find those responsible, please come forward. Someone, somewhere must know information which could help.

“However small the detail may seem, please get in touch with Gwent Police to help them with their investigation.”
