PHOTOGRAPHERS across the county have captured haunting images of abandoned houses or spooky locations ahead of a spine-chilling show.

The Courtyard in Hereford appealed to photographers to submit images for the exhibition which runs until February 14, as part of the venue's suspense season.

It will also coincide with Middleground Theatre Company's production of Classic Ghosts starring Jack Shepherd, Terrence Hardiman and Dicken Ashworth running from Wednesday, February 11 to Saturday, February 14.

Here are six of those images with notes from the photographers.

1.Kidderminster Shuttle:

This picture is by Richard Baker from Tupsley, he says: "Lurking off road in Bodenham, down a dirt tack appears this abandoned house, seems haunted, surrounded by barbed wire and protected by raven birds."

2. Kidderminster Shuttle:

Into the Forest, by Rachel McLellan from Hereford, she says:

These were taken in Wyevale Wood, Hereford, walking distance from my home. Using the uncanny as my inspiration, I looked at a familiar location through a gothic lens, and found fear and trepidation where I ought to find comfort.  Using dark and light effects, and straying a little off the beaten path, I have tried to add an ominous tone to this pretty summer’s day in Breinton, Hereford.

3.Kidderminster Shuttle:

Solitude by Ellie Powell from Abbey Dore, she says: "It’s a single tree representing an alone being who is being pressured by its peers to be like them."

4.Kidderminster Shuttle:

Barn, Much Birch, by Sophie Green from Hereford. She says: "The viewer can't see what’s beyond the deteriorating wall but it’s as hopeful as it is daunting because of the orange glow of the sun’s reflection.

5.Kidderminster Shuttle:

Ghostly Wassailing Figures, at Little Birch, Herefordshire, by Mike Truelove

6. Kidderminster Shuttle:

Stairs, Old Crow Cottage, by Rowan Heptinstall. He says: "This photograph was taken in the 300 year old 'Old Crow Cottage', Willersley. The property is reputedly haunted, its last owner having died in 2009."
