PARAMEDICS have said a woman who was trapped under a lorry in Kidderminster is lucky to be alive.
West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Mercia Police were called to the scene where a 67-year-old woman was hit by a lorry, near to Holy Trinity School, at the junction of Birmingham Road and Shrubbery Street, shortly after 4pm on Wednesday (October 12).
A spokesman from WMAS said: "When crews arrived they found a 67-year-old woman who had suffered serious injuries to her legs.
"Her shopping trolley was still under the lorry.
"She was immobilised and treated at the scene for the injuries to her legs and also a head injury.
"After assessment and stabilisation, she was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by land ambulance.
"The lorry driver, whilst shaken, was uninjured."
A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a trauma doctor on board were all sent to the scene.
A spokesman from West Mercia Police added: "Shortly after 4pm, emergency services were called to Shrubbery Street, where it was reported that there had been a crash involving a pedestrian and a lorry.
"The woman is believed to have suffered leg injuries. The lorry driver was not injured.
"Roads in the area were closed but re-opened later in the evening."
Drivers were advised to avoid the area at the time because of the road closures.
