PLANS to move Malvern’s Tourist Information Centre into the current parish office at Lyttleton Well are coming up for decision.

Malvern Hills District Council is being asked to approve the move at its meeting on Tuesday.

In recent weeks, the council has been in discussion with Great Malvern Priory about accommodating the TIC.

Under the proposal, the council would pay rent on the building and remain responsible for employing staff and promotion of the district as a tourist destination.

The council says it needs to make changes to the TIC as it is unsustainable in its current form - particularly as the council needs to save £1.45million from its budget by 2021 due to government funding cuts.

An earlier proposal to move the TIC to the council house off Avenue Road came to nothing - but not before it generated opposition led by town centre traders, including a 500-name petition.

A report to Tuesday’s meeting says: “The unit is central to the town just off Church Street and offers adequate space for the TIC.

The meeting is at 5pm at the Council Chamber, Avenue Road.
