ENTRIES have been flooding in for the Evesham Journal Pub of the Year, which aims to find the town's favourite boozer.

Our Pub of the Year contest sees readers voting for their favourite with the overall winner receiving a coveted trophy and an invite to the Houses of Parliament by the town's MP Nigel Huddleston.

Votes have already been coming in for the Queen Elizabeth Inn.

The history of this establishment is fascinating having taken its name from the visit of Queen Elizabeth I in 1575.

In 2008 the pub was bought by an individual, who conducted some much needed building work, after an extensive period of neglect. When the former landlady retired in 2014, a consortium of 26 local villagers took on a new lease, embarking on an extensive refurbishment programme, and reopening the pub in December 2014.

Neil Lavender-Jones, one of the volunteers said it was great people were already voting.

"The Queen Elizabeth today is an award winning community run venture," he said.

"We hold a couple of beer and cider festivals each year, live music showcasing local talent, monthly theme and quiz nights, whilst our legendary Sunday roast lunch is enjoyed by all."

Voting for the Pub of the Year award closes on November 30, so use the slip on this page to name your favourite pub and tell us why it deserves to win.

Anyone can vote, whether a member of staff or a loyal customer, but we’ll only accept slips from the newspaper as votes, not photocopies, to avoid any ‘tactics’.

The winner will be announced in the newspaper and on our website on Thursday, December 6.
