A MAN escaped with minor injuries after his car overturned on a level crossing near Ludlow.

Members of the public were able to release the man and pull him clear before the emergency services arrived.

The incident happened on the A49 at Onibury at just after 7.30pm on Monday.

It is not known what caused the car to turn over on the level crossing.

Although shaken, the man received minor injuries and was taken to hospital in Hereford for treatment.

All three of the emergency services were call ed to the accident.

Four fires engines attended from Craven Arms, Ludlow and Wellington including a specialist rescue tender.

Although the man was released from the vehicle before they arrived, fire fighters were required to help to make the car safe and to remove it from the level crossing.

Police were in attendance and both the road and the level crossing had to be closed for a time.

It has been confirmed that just one vehicle was involved in the incident.
