MALVERN Rotary Club’s Tree of Light appeal is again under way, now running for 16 consecutive years.

The two main objectives of the appeal are, firstly, to provide a way for families and friends to remember loved ones who are no longer with them, and secondly, to raise funds for worthy causes.

More than £140,000 has been raised so far since the appeal was founded, and many local many charities have benefitted from the annual distributions of the proceeds.

Ome of the main causes this year is the Age UK befriending service works by matching isolated or lonely elderly people with a volunteer who will visit or call on a regular basis. They might stay for an hour or so for a cup of tea or if preferred a telephone call.

In the long term the scheme hopes to encourage people to become more active socially,to help isolated individuals to join in some of Age UK-Malvern activities or any others in the local community.

A list of donors and lives remembered, updated regularly, together with the names of our business sponsors will be displayed on a screen in the central foyer of Malvern Theatres, Rotary’s website at http://rotary-ribi.org/clubs/homepage.php?ClubID=611 and will appear in the Malvern Gazette before Christmas.

For anyone who wishes to remember a loved one by sponsoring a light, an application form is printed on this page.
