THE county council has been awarded £6 million by the government to fix potholes this winter.

The money, which is part of a national £420 million fund confirmed by the Chancellor in his budget last month, will be allocated to Worcestershire County Council to fix damaged roads and help with other urgent highway-related repairs.

The extra funds were welcomed by West Worcestershire MP Harriet Baldwin and said it would mean the council could fix potholes quickly and efficiently.

She said: “Cold and wet weather inevitably brings road damage and it is really good to see that the Government is planning ahead to help keep our roads in a good condition.

“In my experience, Worcestershire’s roads are pretty good and the processes to report a pothole work well.

"This cash confirmation will mean that the county highways team is able to act and repair potholes and other weather-related damage quickly and efficiently.”
