YOUR votes for Evesham Journal’s Pub of the Year, which aims to find the town’s favourite watering hole, keep coming in – and the Fish and Anchor has proved popular so far.

Our contest sees readers voting for their favourite pub with the winner receiving a trophy and an invite to the Houses of Parliament by the town’s MP Nigel Huddleston.

One of the pubs that has been receiving votes is the Fish and Anchor, on the banks of the River Avon in Offenham.

The pub has become even more popular in recent times after being taken on by the Pilling family, who also run a nearby campsite.

Manager Michael Maughan said the Fish is the watering hole of choice for many who come to use the campsite in the summer.

He said they had a friendly, ‘home away from home’ atmosphere, with a beer garden seating 60 that was enjoyed by many in the recent hot summer, and a bar area that has been refurbished in the last six months.

Mr Maughan said the pub had also gained a reputation for being a place to enjoy good food and drink in relaxed surroundings.

“We are known for having excellent homemade English food and sea food, and we have just launched our Christmas menu,” he said.

The manager added that he was pleased to hear the pub had been backed for the competition.

Voting for the award closes on November 30, so use the slip in this week’s Journal to name your favourite pub and tell us why it deserves to win. Anyone can vote but we’ll only accept slips from the newspaper as votes, not photocopies.

Journal editor Michael Purton said: “There are some brilliant pubs in the area and we want to highlight their high standards.”

The winner will be announced in the newspaper and on our website on Thursday, December 6.
