CHILDREN from across Worcestershire backed a popular good cause on Friday.

The whole nation came together to raise money for Children in Need with many schools in Worcester and surrounding areas inviting their children to dress up in exchange for a donation.

On Friday night, millions of viewers tuned in nationally to see how much had been raised this year by the BBC appeal, as popular comedy sketches were performed.

For the third year running employees at npower’s Worcester contact centre manned the phones for the fundraising appeal with almost 100 employees volunteering their Friday night to take the all-important donations.

Thousands of calls were made, helping the national charity raise more than million.

Dozens of readers of the Worcester News sent in images of their children’s fancy dress, showing their spots and wearing yellow, inspired by the Children in Need mascot Pudsey the Bear.

Among the pictures of children sent in were Kyran, Oliver and Cohen from St Josephs Catholic School, and Toby, Oscar and Ryhan from Oasis Academy in Warndon.

Fundraising events were held across the city including in Crowngate where shoppers enjoyed musical performances and a visit from Pudsey

And Guy Thomas from the Zen Shed were part of Worcester yogis who completed the 108 sun salutations for Pudsey challenge to help raise funds.

Since it started, Children in Need has raised more than £600million for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

The charity has a vision that every child in the UK has a safe, happy and secure childhood and the chance to reach their potential.

Children in Need supports more than 2,600 projects in communities across the UK that are helping children and young people facing a range of disadvantages such as living in poverty, being disabled or ill, or experiencing distress, neglect or trauma.
