A DRIVER who told a police officer a false name when he was stopped at Droitwich has been fined for obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty.

Ehsanullah Fazelkihl, aged 29, of Chetwynd Road, Birmingham, was stopped just after 7pm on Saturday, August 25 on the A38 in the Rashwood area of Droitwich, while he was driving an Audi A6, prosecutor Owen Beale told the court.

The police officer asked Fazelkihl his name, and several times he gave a false name, before officers checked with immigration authorities to disclose his real identity, Worcester magistrates heard.

In court, Fazelkihl needed the services of a translator of Pashtu, one of the languages of Afghanistan, to take part in the proceedings, as his English was poor.

The court heard that it was discovered that Fazelkihl had no valid driving license for the UK and was not covered by insurance.

Through the translator, Fazelkihl pleaded guilty to all three charges.

The court heard that Fazelkihl was travelling with other people in the car, one of whom was driving, but when they arrived at their destination, the driver asked Fazelkihl to park the car, and he was doing this when the police stopped him.

He was staying in the UK on a temporary basis and his case was under review by the Home Office.

The court heard that Fazelkihl has no job and was not on benefits, and was staying with friend who were providing his board and lodgings.

Fazelkihl was fined £40 for the obstruction charge, £40 for the license charge and £120 for no insurance.

His license was endorsed with six penalty points and as he already had six points, he was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He also has to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £135.
