REVISED plans for apartment blocks in Dudley have been passed after developers scaled back their original proposal.

Councillors backed a scheme for two blocks of flats on open grassed area, sloping upwards from Dibdale Road to Salop Street, dropping a third building.

In September, the original scheme was rejected citing the loss of open space currently used as a play area for children and increased noise from traffic and parking problems.

But a new plan was passed this week when the developers submitted a revised scheme for two blocks providing a mix of one and two bedroom flats.

The scheme still received seven objections from residents over fears of traffic and the loss of green space and that the blocks would overlook neighbouring homes.

In September, Cllr Bryan Cotterill said the development would be detrimental to local people.

“Right in the middle of this land is a green open space. Now it may not be classified as green belt but it is the green belt of the people who live in the area.”

But backing the revised scheme this week, Cllr Asif Ahmed, said he would support the plans.

He said: “I made a pretty bold statement last time when this came forward, in regards the third block and I think the developer has addressed those issues and I think it would be wrong of me to now turn on my words.”
