A COUPLE who were banned from a city supermarket for alleged shoplifting are being allowed back into the store.

Sheila Lewis and Raymond Griffiths denied stealing from Lidl, in Blackpole, Worcester, and demanded that the supermarket lift the ban.

The couple, of Chatcombe Drive, Worcester, now want the company to apologise to them.

Miss Lewis, aged 53, said: "I doubt we will go back in after all this. I don't want to go back, I feel we won't be trusted.

"We need an apology off them. I want proof that we shoplifted. They didn't ring the police up, where's the proof?

"As far as I'm concerned we didn't shoplift, we never shoplifted in there.

"I think it's nasty that they did this to us. I struggle with anxiety as it is. If I go back, I will feel like someone's watching me.

"It's going to make me shaky and edgy again. I don't know if I'll ever go back in there, even with an apology. How will I know if they are going to accuse me again?"

Mr Griffiths, aged 65, had a previous run-in with the manager of the store over returning three broken items.

He added: "It feels bad to be accused of shoplifting. The last time we went in there he [the manager] took us back out.

"We need a letter saying we are allowed back in the shop. If we go there he will say 'what are you doing in here?'"

Mr Griffiths said the manager watched him and his wife 'like a hawk', after accusing them of shoplifting.

He claims the Lidl employee even searched his mobility scooter.

However, he added that he will attempt to go back into the store.

The pair were banned from Lidl when Mr Griffiths set off the security alarm a few months before Christmas.

He claims he forgot to take a label off a cushion on his mobility scooter and was forced to go home to get the receipt to prove it was not stolen.

Lidl confirmed that it was lifting the couple's ban.
