A WOMAN who crashed into a parked car and slurred her words in front of police officers refused to take a breathalyser test, a court heard.

Magistrates were told that a witness found Katie Jones at the wheel of her Vauxhall, with a ‘vacant expression’, after she smashed into a parked vehicle.

Colette Orton, prosecuting, said the witness was walking back from the pub when he heard the crash and saw the damaged car.

She added: “There was a female in the driver’s side. He said ‘are you hurt?’ She didn’t reply and had a vacant expression.

“She was revving the engine but not moving. He could tell she was drunk from the way she was acting.

“Police said she had slurred speech, was unsteady on her feet and smelt of alcohol.

“She was taken to Worcester Police Station and failed to provide a sample of breath. She didn’t give a medical reason.”

The 46-year-old crashed in Station Road, Honeybourne, near Evesham, at around 11pm on January 25, the court heard.

Jones, of Clevedon Green, South Littleton, Evesham, pleaded guilty to failing to provide specimen of breath for analysis.

The defendant, who was representing herself, said: “I feel what I did that day was wrong.

“It’s really out of character and not something I’d normally do. I’m so sorry.

“I hit my head at the time.”

Jones, who works in a nursing home for dementia patients, was disqualified from driving for 14 months.

Worcester Magistrates Court also told her to pay a £512 fine, a £51 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs, on February 14.
