A FATHER and daughter from Malvern have completed a gruelling adventure race in the Central American country of Costa Rica.

Each stage of the 240-km Coastal Challenge took Bill and Jess Adsett through varied and arduous terrain including waterfalls, jungle, along sandy coastlines, forest trails and river beds and up steep mountains.

They covered between 32 and 49 km on each of the challenge's six days, with the longest day taking them 12 hours.

Jan Adsett, Mr Adsett's wife and Miss Adsett's mother, said: "They worked as a team and helped each other through the highs and lows.

"They were determined to finish and although there was a shorter race that others dropped down to, they stuck with the expedition route and made it.

"Jess was the youngest competitor at 24, and being able to do it with her dad made the experience unique and very special.

"Bill has completed other multi day and ultra distance events including Marathon de Sables in 2014, and it’s great to see him being able to share his experience and knowledge with his daughter.

"Jess wanted to show her dad the beautiful country that she had come to love when she visited with Operation Raleigh after leaving the Chase.

"She trekked across the country then and became very poorly. Her desire to return was strong and she wanted to take her dad so that she could share the wonderful environment with him."
