CAMPAIGNERS fighting to save the Dudley Hippodrome will host a fundraising variety show later this month to help boost their battle to reopen the beleaguered 1930s theatre.

The Save Dudley Hippodrome Variety Show takes place on March 29 at the Brook Street Community Centre on Brook Street in Tipton, hosted by the Save Dudley Hippodrome group.

The group hopes to re-open the art-deco former theatre as a performance venue and community hub, with space for youngsters to hone their performance skills.

The show will include a host of variety acts harking back to the theatre's golden age.

A Frank Spencer tribute, bhangra performers and the cast from the musical Oliver are some performers who will take to the stage.

The group's campaign suffered a setback last December when council chiefs gave the Driverless Vehicles Consortium 12 months to finalise their plans to take over the building, effectively ruling out the campaigners' bid.

Angela Fletcher from the Save The Hippodrome group said the campaigners will not give up in their mission to see the theatre revived.

She said: "The fight is still going on. There is a such a lot of promise."

Tickets for the show are on sale now and cost £10 each.
