AN ASPIRING teenage writer from Ross-on-Wye is set to become a published author.

Maisy Harradine, 14, has been hailed a finalist in a nationwide writing competition for young authors with her story, The Guest List.

Telling the tale of hotel clerk Miss Maisy May, the 300-word creative bedtime story was written for the Hallmark Hotels Storytelling campaign.

Drawing on her love of Gruffalo author Julia Donaldson's rhythmic literary style for inspiration, Maisy penned the poetic piece during her half term holiday.

It will now be included, along with those of her fellow finalists, in a bedtime storybook that will be available to families staying at Hallmark hotels across the country.

"Maisy's story is truly wonderful," said judge Gordon Volke, an author and scriptwriter for CBBC's Teletubbies.

"Her rhyming skills are impressive and this tale shows the skills of a mature, intelligent and humorous writer.

"Maisy is a worthy author for the bedtime storybook and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future."
