A SPECIAL evening of music and song will soon be taking place inside a magnificent 12th century church.

St Mary’s Church, Hanley Castle, one of the oldest buildings in the village, will be hosting its first musical soirée, on Saturday, May 18, at 7pm.

The event will raise money for the Friends of St Mary’s Church, who work to preserve and maintain the church and its grounds.

Sopranos Lyn Rimell and Jayne Swann will be taking centre stage, accompanied by flautists Melanie Weston and Marion Yeo and accompanist Carole Davies.

The concert will feature show-stoppers, light opera and well-known favourites.

Lyn Rimell said: “We are all really looking forward to performing at this special musical evening. We have put together a varied programme which we feel will appeal to all tastes. Jayne and I have had great fun choosing and practicing.

“The atmosphere that this incredible building will create is going to be a wonderful experience both for us singers and the audience."

Tickets cost £10, including refreshments, and are available from The Three Kings, Castle, Hanley Swan village shop, on the door, or enquiries@friendsofstmaryschurchhanleycastle.org.uk.
