WORCESTER police have tweeted they are taking action against boy racers in Worcester.

West Mercia Specials has tweeted that a "young lad", driving a black Ford Focus poorly, was stopped on Thursday night in Nunnery Way, Warndon and given a warning.

The account tweeted: "Lots of issues recently with people driving like idiots and racing on Nunnery Way.

"Vehicle stopped and advised of poor driving.

"The young lad driving has only had license for 18 months.

"A stern warning issued and any further contact will result in fines."

Andrew Cross, chairman of Warndon Parish Council, said the issue of boy racers had been discussed at the council, which regularly also collects data on speeding in the roads.

"It's really important that people keep calling 101 when antisocial behaviour happens so the police have call log data to work with," he said.

"With their capabilities stretched due to budget cuts, etc, the police need data from call logs and emails about issues in order for them to commit resources to tackling those issues.

"Information from the local community is a big help to our police teams.

"When calling 101 about an issue in Warndon Parish, please ask the call handler to forward the info to (the police's) Warndon Safer Neighbourhood Team and to give you the call reference number."
