A PLANNED community hall in Pershore has a noted shortfall in funding.

Pershore Town Council have noted shortfall in funds of £204,000 for the proposed community hall, which currently has a total budget cost of £850,000.

Ann Dobbins, spokeswoman for Pershore Town Council, said: "We will consult with residents to get their agreement to borrow money for the project.

"I can't give a breakdown on costs as no contract has been arranged and as soon as that happens.

"We are being fully transparent as is our duty.

"When looking at a site, we looked at no less than thirteen places for the build, including Abbey Park, but they all proved unsuitable with various issues."

The figure of £850,000 is everything even down to the furniture and landscaping.

However, if the archaeological investigation finds something of significance then this cost cannot be planned for at this time.

The community hall will be built land next to Pershore Cemetery, off Defford Road, in response to the increasing population of the village.

Planning approval, which was granted by Wychavon District Council, will provide a large main function hall and a meeting room, a kitchen, toilets and changing facilities as well as a family history room. The hall would accommodate around 150 people.

There has been mixed opinion on the creation of a community hall.

At a recent Pershore Town Council meeting, Jacqui Marler represented Pershore Football Club and said: "I think it is a complete waste of money. Invest in what you have.” Ms Marler gave the youth centre as an example of an organisation that has to “plead for money every year.”
