READERS have been having their say on the news McDonald’s is hoping to bring a fourth restaurant to Worcester.

The fast food chain is the new owner of the former Harvester pub and has submitted applications to the city council.

McDonald’s says it is aiming to create 65 new jobs, but residents and councillors in the area are already voicing concerns as the site is near a brand new primary school opening later this year.

Many of the comments on social media were against the proposal.

Katy Lush said: "We already have McDonald's we don't need any more. We need decent family friendly pubs and restaurants."

Joe Khemikal said: "Burger King, Wagamamas, TGI Fridays, etc would be much better than maccies."

Tina Prigg said: "Something much more healthy is needed in Worcester Far too many fast food outlets."

Stacey Pritty said: "It’d be a waste of a lovely building for it to be turned into a McDonald's", while Nathan Preedy said: "A restaurant selling unhealthy junk food right next to a primary school."

Claire Cotton said: "Time they built soft play centre for the kids with stuff for older kids."

But Nigel Addison said: "These comments make me laugh - why not Burger King, TGI etc - well it is simple they are not prepared to invest in the area but McDonald's do."

Nicola Long said: "I don't think it matters if there is a school near by or not.

"End of the day the food was awful and that's why the pub closed.

"It's creating new jobs in the area and you have a choice to eat there."

And a reader on the Worcester News website added: "NIMBY's out in full force for this one, I see."

Matthew Smith said: "Please take a few minutes to let the council know what you think."
