A SCHOOL in Chaddesley Corbett has launched its very own radio station with help from Heart FM broadcaster Ed James.

Radio Winterfold broadcast its first podcast, featuring songs from The Cult, David Bowie and Justin Timberlake, into the Winterfold School playground on Friday (June 14).

Ed took time out from his busy broadcasting schedule to help children with the launch and, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony, was interviewed by four year seven pupils live on air.

Speaking after the launch, Ed said: "What an awesome idea for the kids and you could see how much they loved it too.

Kidderminster Shuttle:

"Today I met some of the broadcasters of the future. Radio, in my opinion, is the best medium there is and will teach them so much, from public speaking, listening, writing, newsgathering to creativity.

"I wish Iā€™d had something like this when I was at school.ā€

Radio Winterfold was funded by the Friends of Winterfold - a team of parents who raise money for school initiatives.

The station will produce monthly podcasts written by and for students, featuring interviews with teachers, quizzes, games and features.

Music written by students will also feature alongside sports reports and an audio version of the school's religious magazine.

Head of music Jerry Price said: "We're so excited about the future of Radio Winterfold.

"We plan to stream live very soon to allow the children to develop amazing broadcast skills for the modern world."
