AIR pollution is being looked at in a campaign launched by Chipping Norton's Labour Party.

Chipping Norton has the highest concentrations of nitrogen dioxide in West Oxfordshire, way over the European legal limit.

In Horsefair where the A44 narrows, the reading is 48mcgs per cubic metre. In parts of the High Street it is 40mcgs per cubic metre.

The European legal limit is 25mcgs per cubic metre.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended limit is 10mcgs per cubic metre.

The HGV issue affects many more towns and villages along the A44.

The project will provide residents with details of the dangers of breathing toxic air, what has been done (and not done) so far. A leaflet is to be given out at a street stall on June 20 and around the town with being used UNICEF materials as posters and handouts.

Members will present, (in person) a petition to an OCC meeting; asking that the council discharges its legal responsibility for reducing air pollution levels, specifically of Nitrogen Dioxide, in Chipping Norton.

Surveys will assess the proportions of HGVs that arrive at Chipping Norton from the A44, A361 and A3400 respectively, and will assess the proportions of HGVs that leave Chipping Norton on the A44 or A361.
