REDDITCH boxing starlet Madison Adkins has made an impressive start in the sport after switching from taekwondo.

The 13-year-old, who is a member of the town's Bodyshot Boxing gym, stormed to victory at the Three Nations Championships in Barnsley on June 9 to highlight her eye-catching progress.

She bounced back from a final defeat at the English Schoolgirl Nationals to claim the Three Nations glory.

The Studley High School pupil only started competing in the sport in January but has been quick to transfer her fighting skills.

Adkins tasted regular success in the taekwondo ranks and became British black belt champion with Redditch Tigers as well as bagging a host of notable victories from a young age.

She has now switched sports and her early success in the ring has already attracted the attention of Great British Boxing.

Her father Marcus is delighted with how Madison has progressed in such a short amount of time.

He said: "It's been a busy start to the year but she has done brilliantly.

"She was on the end of a disappointing decision in the English Schoolgirl Nationals but then beat the same girl on her way to victory in the Three Nations, so that keeps her right at the top of the rankings.

"Obviously representing GB and going to the Olympics is the ultimate goal but for now it's all about continuing the progress.

"She is now firmly on the Team GB radar and hopefully can continue to train with them and make their squads in the future."

Adkins will now head to tournaments in Sweden and Portugal in October as she looks to gain more experience again European opposition.
