EVESHAM Rambling Club launches its first ever Evesham Walking Festival next week as part of its long term goal of acquiring “Walkers Are Welcome” status for the town.
As part of the project, the club launched the Round Evesham Walk last year and this six mile loop around the town, which has already become a local favourite, kicks off the programme this Monday, July 1.
With the support of Evesham Town Council, Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire County Councils, the club has put together a programme of 15 walks over seven days.
Teaming up with local groups including The Vale Landscape Heritage Trust, Badsey Historical Society, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, The Housman Society and Evesham Ramblers, all the walks are themed. Walkers will be able to learn, amongst other things, more about the River Avon, Market Gardening in the Vale, Poetry, the Battle of Evesham and local flora and fauna.
Alan Saunders, secretary of Evesham Rambling Club, said: “We are really looking forward to the festival and to welcoming both local walkers and those from further afield.
"Some walks include the opportunity to visit a Medieval Tithe Barn, a cider mill and a brewery.
"After the Pebworth Walk on Saturday, there will be a social evening and BBQ at the local pub. We hope to see you there.”
The walks are graded “easy” or “moderate” and are from as short as one and a half miles to the longest at eight.
All walks are free and will be led and guided by experienced club members.
