A SOCIAL club in Bromsgrove that is more than 100 years old is showcasing its extensive garden makeover at a special summer party.

Aston Fields Social Club's open day takes place between 3-8pm on Saturday, July 20 and visitors - non-members as well as members - can enjoy live music as well as a pig roast.

The completed the refurbishment of its garden, which now features extensive seating areas, in early June.

It also has secure access to Aston Fields recreational ground where children can play.

There will be full access to the club on the day, including the snooker room, upstairs function room with bar and the main bar and dining area downstairs.

Dave Winney, club steward, said: “Aston Fields is a very sociable club and we always warmly welcome new members from the local community.

"We offer a comfortable and informal place where people can enjoy a drink or participate in our regular events, which include quiz nights, bingo and live music.”

Founded as a working men’s club in 1894, it was originally based in one room of a cottage on the corner of South Road and Stoke Road.

It then moved to Pear Tree Villa, opposite the Ladybird Inn, before moving to its present location on Stoke Road.
